Protection, and Comfort. In one. Fell. Swoop.

The Manta Spine was initially my way of covering up and protecting the pogo pins and the prong insertion points from debris and damage. After designing the Frame to cover that up, I saw an opportunity to improve the feel on that side of the device as well. So I did.

The Frame

The Frame is the foundation of the spine. It’s made from a rigid plastic that covers the areas where debris can get into and affect the functionality of the device.  All 4 prong insertion points, for the case, are covered, and the pogo pins that allow for peripheral connections are also covered. These additions allow you to confidently store your Supernote Manta in your bag, case, or anywhere without worrying about those sensitive areas.

The Manta's Half Folio hooks and prongs have been replicated for an exact fit. However, the all-plastic “Frame” excludes the center hooks, which are replaced with extra prongs to prevent internal device obstruction and potential damage. Future designs will incorporate a more durable "metal hook insert" to enhance the Manta Spine's functionality.

The Bumper

After I solved the problem of exposed areas, I recognized that the Frame retained the device's squared-off edge. The Bumper was developed to solve the comfort problem by improving the ergonomics. Made from a softer material and featuring a rounded profile, the Bumper transforms the device's once-square edge into a more natural and comfortable curve in the hand. This dual-material approach provides both a pleasant tactile experience and added stability.

The Manta Spine

We have a rigid, protective, frame and a soft, rounded, bumper. Putting the two together gives you the Manta Spine. Comfortable protection that adds some character and style to your device.

Future Developement

I’ll be researching different materials, colors, and opacities, to get the combination just right, and to add a little customization to your device. Given the Frame's central role in the product, with its rigidity, hooks, and prongs, I envision it serving as a foundation for future expansions, including compatible cases, backings, and third-party half folios.
